Entertaiment is a wide category of things that provide enjoyment, diversion, amusement or distraction. It can be a simple pleasure such as solving a daily crossword puzzle, or the elaborate entertainments of a ball or theatrical production. Entertainment can range from activities like hunting or archery that are now largely spectator sports, to a banquet adapted for two, to performances intended for thousands and even broadcast worldwide. Entertainment often hits on themes that the human mind was evolved to deeply respond to – for example, stories about social backstabbing or murders. These stories can inspire retellings in other media, such as music, film and games.
