Entertaiment is a popular word, with many meanings. It can be private entertainment such as a DVD or music exchange with friends, or it can be a party adapted to any size or type of crowd, with appropriate food, music, and dance. It can also be a performance intended for thousands, and even a global audience.
What is entertaining for one person may be boring for another. Entertainment is often seen as fun and lighthearted, but it can also have a serious purpose such as ceremony, celebration, or satire. Bates and Ferri (2010) define entertainment as something understood objectively, that encompasses communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience, and occurs in a passive form.
